Rome, Italy – According to official records of the United States Army, during the Italian Campaign (9 Sept 1943 thru 2 May 1945), the US 5th Army, suffered the following number of Casualties: Total 109,642 with 19,475 = Killed in Action; 80,530 = Wounded in Action; 9,637 = Missing in Action, etc. While the US 7th Army during the earlier Sicilian Campaign (9 July 1943 thru 17 August 1943), suffered the following number of Casualties: Total 8,781 with 2,237 Killed and or Missing in Action; 5,946 Wounded in Action; and  598 Captured as Prisoner of War.
