ROMA ARCHEOLOGIA e RESTAURO ARCHITETTURA: Parco dei Fori Imperiali, nuova illuminazione by Vittorio Storaro. Lo spettacolo di Piero Angela fino al 2/11. COMUNE DI ROMA (16|09|2014). Comment by Dr. Marina Milella of the Museum of the Imperial Forums (19 March 2009).
“….[The] Imperial Fora should have money too, about preservation of remains (the risk is there to lose ancient traces of pavement, for instance). For all ancient (and middle-age and modern too, I suppose) monument, the problem should be a change in weather, that seems less “soft” as it used to be. But also the lack of (money for) a plan of maintenance: for a long time things as periodical cleaning, maintenance and so on, seemed to be not so important: better to spend money for events and shows (too many), where politicians could show themselves in the better way. This is a matter about past government too, it is not a matter of right or left (perhaps it could be if we had a left in Italy, or perhaps I have a romantic and out-of-time idea of what a left should do).
The street light on via dei Fori Imperiali should be the new lights on the archeological area of Basilica Ulpia and on the Trajan’s Column (?): they seem to want to start from the light in the archeological area and not from the restoration works: that is said to be because a growing attention to the area will bring new money for restoration too. What opposition suspect is that in this way they will just hide dust under the carpet, since the new beautiful light will make seem everything is ok. And who will think about a lot of less attracting and expensive matters as serious studies and restoration?
The opposition think that the urgency is to show that, since the major has changed (now a right major), they need to show (only appearance) that things are changing too. Fastness and efficiency. Forgetting that serious matters should require time enough to think and not only the time to do some maquillage….”
